why one should not cover his ears?

The impeachment is in a hiatus.

Meanwhile, the net is buzzing over Vitaliano Aguirre of the Prosecution team who was cited in contempt, after (sounds funny) covering his ears while the feisty Senator judge Miriam Santiago was giving the "gago" (to borrow Santiago's term) prosecution team a heavy tongue-lashing and lecture on law.

It seems, the veteran lawyer did not want to hear any of Santiago's words.

Unfortunately, everyone was all eyes to Aguirre.

The bottomline: Respect is two-way. We can meet half-way.
